Abrakadabra: “Now You See Me – The Incredible 3” is not at all dead!

After the franchise was blazing hot, the hype surrounding the “Now You See Me” series has cooled noticeably in recent years. But now “The Unbelievable 3” is picking up speed again …

After the surprise hit ” The Incredibles ” had more than $ 350 million (with a budget of moderate 75 million) in the coffers worldwide in 2013, the US studio Lionsgate started planning an entire cinema universe around the magicians working as world-saving tricksters -Troop “The four riders”.

But then the sequel ” The Unbelievable 2 ” three years later “only” earned $ 340 million with a budget increased to $ 90 million. That is only ten million less than the first part – but the sequel was not just hoped for a similarly high box office result, but actually a decent increase. So the final number was a juicy disappointment.

So it was no wonder that the big plans got stuck afterwards. It was always said that the third part should still come – but the new news dripped in less and less often and in the vast majority of cases this means that at some point you won’t hear anything about the project. But ” The Incredible 3 ” is apparently the exception to the rule!

Now Lionsgate has announced that the studio has written the author Eric Warren Singer , who was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay for ” American Hustle ” and most recently also worked on the script for ” Top Gun 2: Maverick “, for “Die Unfassbaren 3 “Has hired. His job: a “fresh approach to the franchise that captures the fun, magic and spirit of the original films while introducing new characters”.

According to Lionsgate, the new script should give the stars of the earlier films, especially Jesse Eisenberg , Woody Harrelson and Mark Ruffalo , the chance to revive their roles. But that also means that the old team should no longer be the center of attention this time. This in turn could also be due to the fact that the budget will probably go down a little this time after the long break.

On the other hand, Lionsgate has to really go into full swing: After the success of “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games”, the studio had suddenly become one of the major players in Hollywood – a status that Lionsgate then rose to could not confirm the level. Now you start with ” Saw 9 “, the “Hunger Games” prequel ” The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes ” and “The Unbelievable 3” – and the chances are not too bad.

When “The Unbelievable 3” should come to the cinemas is currently still in the stars. But we don’t expect to start before summer 2022.
