Apple Inc. launched the iPhone 12 with faster 5G connectivity on Tuesday, which the California-based Cupertino company expects to spur the wave of upgrades and continue to grow sales through the end of the year.
Hans Vestberg, CEO of Verizon Communications Inc, said the new iPhone will work with the carrier’s “ultra-broadband” 5G networks designed to alleviate bottlenecks in major cities such as New York and Los Angeles and congested areas such as the NFL stadium.
Apple says all iPhone 12 models in the United States will support millimeter wave 5G and the low frequency band, the fastest variant of the technology. Some rival Android devices only support the low frequency version of 5G.
The iPhone 12 with a 6.1-inch display has a flat side with a flush display, which is similar to the company’s iPhone 5 and has been out of round corners in recent years.
New phones will have a “ceramic shield” glass cover to prevent cracking when dropped.
Apple also announced the HomePod Mini smart speaker, which is available in white and gray, and is priced at $99 and will ship from November 16th.
The new HomePod offers features like allowing multiple users to use at home and sending information to car-based systems. For example, a user can ask HomePod for the closing time and then direct them to the store. Many of the features serve to keep up with similar products offered by Google from Amazon.com Inc and Alphabet Inc.
The annual launch event is nearly a month later than usual, and the coronavirus pandemic has halted Apple’s greasy machinery that designs and produces the best-selling products.
The iPhone announced Tuesday. It will test whether Apple can continue the enthusiasm of consumers around 5G wireless data networks. The fastest variant of 5G wireless data networks exceeds the data rates of its predecessors several times. Android devices, such as Samsung, have rolled out new networking features for months, and analysts say 5G phones are driving the upgrade.
However, Apple is in a delicate position that needs to excite consumers without disappointing them with 5G. For many fans, it will be their first experience with 5G networks. It won’t take years to deliver dramatic speed in the US Helps most consumers. Some analysts are concerned that Apple will sell high-power sports cars, but customers will be stuck on a sleepy town road.
Apple’s share price surged 6% the previous day, then fell 2.7% on Tuesday, adding $128 billion to the stock price.
In January, Apple stopped providing financial guidance due to the uncertainty of the epidemic. However, despite the wave of retail store closures and travel bans that delayed iPhone development, as Apple engineers were unable to cross the Pacific Ocean to Chinese factories as often, Apple’s financial results largely defeated the epidemic.
In July, the company recorded a year-over-year increase in revenues in all categories and all regions as consumers who work and learn from home switch to products and services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Apple last month launched a new watch model with a blood oxygen sensor, updated the iPad model, and launched a paid subscription service bundle called Apple One.
The company also pledged to introduce new Mac computers before the end of the year based on processors of their own design, not Intel.
