London : British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Thursday that Britain will be locked down for a month.
Johnson said at a virtual press conference in Downing Street on Saturday that “it’s time to take action because there is no alternative.
The Prime Minister’s announcement came just hours after official figures appeared that the UK’s confirmed coronavirus cases exceeded 1 million votes.
He told a live press conference that “you must be at home from Thursday to early December, and you can leave home for certain reasons.”
The new measure, which takes effect until December 2nd, allows British people to leave home for certain reasons, such as education, work or food shopping, Johnson said.
Pubs, bars and restaurants are closed nationwide except for takeout. Stores, beauty salons, leisure and entertainment venues that are not required will also be closed, he said.
The Prime Minister added that schools, colleges and universities will continue to be open, and those who cannot work from home, such as construction or manufacturing workers, will continue to encourage them to go to work.
Meanwhile, support foam and parenting foam remain, but mixing of other furniture is prohibited. The gym is closed, but people can continue exercising outdoors with up to one person from another family, Johnson announced.
After December 2, restrictions will be eased and the region will return to a layered system, the prime minister said.
“Christmas will be different this year. Probably very different. But now it is my heartfelt hope and faith that we can bring families across the country together by taking tough action,” Johnson said.
The UK government has previously pursued a localized approach to combat the COVID-19 pandemic with a three-level alert system based on local infection rates.
According to official statistics last Saturday, another 21,915 people in the UK tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in a total number of coronavirus cases across the country of 1,011,660.
According to data, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the UK rose from 326 to 46,555.
To restore normal life, countries like the UK, China, Russia and the United States are racing against time to develop a coronavirus vaccine.
