Mariam Nawaz, daughter of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, tweeted Monday (October 19) that her husband Captain Safdar Awan was arrested by Karachi police.
Mariam, chief leader of the Pakistan Muslim Federation (N), said Karachi police opened the door of the hotel room where she was staying and arrested Captain Safdar.
Maryam’s husband was arrested hours after participating in a massive protest by the Pakistani opposition against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Police took action after the Pakistani Democratic Movement (PDM) Karachi rally, joined by Pakistani People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto.
At a rally, Maryam Nawaz accused Prime Minister Imran Khan of concealing the government’s failure by undermining the image of the Pakistani army.
“When I ask for a response, I hide behind the army. Coward! You made the army refute. You use them [army] to hide your own failures. Who gave this right?” Said Maryam.
The rally was also addressed by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chair Mehmood Achakzai, along with other leaders.
Maryam also accused Prime Minister Khan of threatening the opposition with his’strong’ actions and promised to launch a popular movement to return Nawaz Sharif to the country and send Imran to prison.
“You may have seen a man on a TV screen yesterday shouting his defeat. Say’ghabrana nai hai’ to your [PM Imran] people. I have only one thing that is good, but I’m already worried. Your fears have become evident in every word you say and every action you do, and people want to see this fear in your face,” she told the prime minister. “If you don’t know how to show grace and have no one to teach, you should have learned from Nawaz Sharif,” she reminded Prime Minister Imran Khan of the 126-day sit-in time PTI requested in Shahrah. e-Dastoor.
“You [PM Imran] deal with empty chairs and dig the graves of democracy [and yet] me and Z Sharif did not bring your name. Even today you will crave it, but Nawaz Sharif will not take your name either. Because children don’t have a role in the fight between the elderly,” added Maryam.
