Nagpur : U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, a’distant relative of India’, claimed to have lived in Nagpur City, Maharashtra in 2013 and from 1873 in 2015.
When Biden, then Vice President of the United States, was in Mumbai in 2013, he said some of his distant relatives lived in India’s financial capital.
At the 2013 Mumbai event and another in Washington in 2015, Biden received a letter from one of the Indian Bidens after becoming a Senator in 1972 and his “Great, Great, Great, Great, Great-Grandfather” Worked for East India Company.
This letter was written by Leslie Biden, who resides in Nagpur, whose grandson stays in Nagpur and claims that the family has been living here since 1873.
Leslie’s granddaughter, Nagpur-based psychologist Sonia Biden Francis told PTI that’Bidens in Nagpur and Everywhere’ was delighted with Joe Biden’s US presidential victory.
Sonia is based in Nagpur by Leslie Biden and was the manager of Bharat Lodge and Hostel and Bharat Cafe in’orange city’ before her death in 1983.
Sonia said, “While reading the weekly magazine’Weekly Illustrations of India’ from March 28 to April 4, 1981, Leslie encountered an article about Joe Biden, then the US Senate.
“Leslie contacted Joe Biden through a letter sent on April 15, 1981. Joe Biden replied to Leslie in a letter dated May 30, 1981, and after receiving the letter from India, he was delighted and discussed Bidens’ genealogy as well. ,” She said.
Sonia’s older brother, Ian Biden, 44, was a former sailor of the Merchant Navy staying in Nagpur, and Leslie and Joe Biden said they shared information about their common ancestor John Biden and his wife Anbomont.
Leslie’s granddaughter Rowena said, “Leslie and Joe Biden thank each other for contacting each other and promise to keep in touch. However, Leslie Biden’s health deteriorated, and he died in Nagpur in 1983. Leslie’s wife could no longer pursue the family tree,” said Leslie’s granddaughter Rowena. I also live in Nagpur.
The Biden family showed off this correspondent letter, claiming it was part of a letter between Leslie and Joe Biden.
When asked if Nagpur-based Bidens would attend Joe Biden’s inauguration in January, family members told 77-year-old Biden they were doing their best.
“The Biden family from Nagpur, Mumbai, New Zealand and the United States met for the wedding of Leslie’s grandson Leslie David Biden in January 2018,” said Sonia.
Leslie Biden’s descendants live in Nagpur, Mumbai, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, Sonia said. Bidens living in Nagpur include Leslie’s daughter-in-law, Angelina Biden.
His daughter Evelyn Majumdar, grandson Duncan Biden and granddaughter Sheryl Dweltz live in Mumbai, Sonia added, adding that Bidens has been living in Mumbai since 1971.
Leslie Biden’s daughter, Lillian Biden D’souza, is staying in Nagpur like his grandchildren Leslie Biden and Nigel Lazarus, she said. His daughter Charmaine Biden Borges and grandchildren Denzil, Charlene and David stay in New Zealand, while Erica and Lincoln stay in Australia. Another grandson, Titi, also lives abroad, she added.
Biden said at the Bombay Stock Exchange on July 24, 2013, “It’s an honor to come back to India and come to Mumbai. It reminded me that I was elected to the U.S. Senate when I left the script for a while here. I was a 29 year old kid in 1972, it was one of the first letters I received, and I regret not tracking it down.
“Perhaps some genealogists in the audience can follow up for me, but I got a letter in Mumbai from a gentleman named Biden, my name, Biden, claiming that we are relatives,” Biden told the Mumbai audience seven years ago.
In a 2015 speech in Washington, Biden claimed to be “great, great, great, great, great-grandfather.” George Biden was the captain of an East Indian trading company, and after retirement, he decided to settle in India and married an Indian woman.
“There are five Bidens in Mumbai, India,” Biden told the audience.
Biden also said that someone provided details, including Mumbai’s Bidens phone number. He informed the audience that he had not yet called his relatives, but planned to do so.
