Paris: Police told Reuters that the area around the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower in central Paris reopened after a brief evacuation on Tuesday for security alerts. The Arc de Triomphe area and surrounding metro stations were evacuated by bomb alerts, but in 1630 GMT traffic returned to normal, police and witnesses said.
The Paris Champs de Mars park around the Eiffel Tower also evacuated briefly after finding a bag with ammunition. French news sites in both regions showed pictures of blue bags with different types of ammunition.
France is on high vigilance against the beheading of teachers this month, an 18-year-old Muslim man outraged about using the prophet Muhammad’s cartoons in civic classes. There have been several false bomb alerts. Most recently, it happened at Lyon train station last week and at the Eiffel Tower a month ago.
